What changed: We filled in the company details and explained that, when the terms change, we ask you to accept them again when you sign in.
Terms of Service
This is an English translation for convenience. If it differs from the Spanish version, the Spanish version prevails.
These terms govern your use of Strix Mail (the "service"), a web email client provided by 3-101-084807 Sociedad Anónima, corporate ID (cédula jurídica) 3-101-084807, with its address at San Josecito de San Isidro, Heredia, 50 metros al norte de la Iglesia Católica, mano derecha (código postal 40602), Costa Rica ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service, you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
If you use Strix Mail on behalf of a company or other organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these terms on its behalf.
What Strix Mail is
Strix Mail is an email client, not a mailbox provider. It lets you read, organize, search, write and send the email of mailboxes you already have with other providers (your IMAP/SMTP server and, when available, Gmail or Google Workspace and Outlook.com or Microsoft 365) in a single web interface and in the mobile app.
- Your email provider still owns your mailbox. Your mail lives on its server. Strix Mail keeps a working copy (cache) to display it quickly and to search it, and applies on your server the actions you take (move, flag, delete, send).
- Your email provider's terms (Google, Microsoft or another) remain in force between you and that provider. We are not responsible for their services, their outages, or for them withdrawing or changing the access they grant us.
Your account
- To use the service you need an account with an email address you can verify and a password. You must be of legal age in your country (and in any case at least 18 years old).
- The information you give us must be true and up to date.
- You are responsible for keeping your password, your two-step verification codes and your recovery codes safe, and for what happens in your account. We recommend turning on two-step verification.
- If you suspect someone accessed your account, change your password, sign out other sessions from Settings → Security and write to [email protected].
Organizations
- When you sign up, a personal organization is created and you own it. You can invite other people and belong to several organizations.
- An organization's owner and admins can invite members, change roles and remove members. The owner can delete the organization.
- Connected mailboxes belong to each person. Neither the owner nor the admins of an organization can see other members' mailboxes or email.
- Deleting an organization deletes everything that depends on it in Strix Mail, including the mailboxes each member connected within that organization and their cache. Whoever deletes an organization must tell its members beforehand. None of this deletes email on your providers' servers.
- If an organization gave you access (for example, your employer), its own internal rules may also apply.
The mailboxes you connect
- You may only connect mailboxes that belong to you or that you are authorized to use.
- By connecting a mailbox, you authorize us to access it on your behalf and only to provide the service to you: sync folders and messages, display them, search them, apply your actions and send what you send. How we handle that data is described in the Privacy Policy.
- You can disconnect a mailbox at any time from Settings → Accounts, and revoke Strix Mail's access from your Google or Microsoft account.
- Your provider may limit how much you can send, attachment sizes, or IMAP/SMTP access. Strix Mail follows those limits and cannot bypass them.
Acceptable use
You may not use Strix Mail to:
- send unsolicited email (spam), chain letters or bulk mailings that break the law or your provider's policies;
- impersonate someone else, phish, or misrepresent the origin of a message;
- distribute malware or illegal content, or infringe third-party rights (including intellectual property and privacy);
- access mailboxes, accounts or data without authorization;
- probe, scan or breach the security of the service without our written permission, overload it, or interfere with other users;
- use the service (including the image proxy) to reach third-party networks or systems;
- copy, resell or reverse engineer the service, except as expressly allowed by law.
If you find a vulnerability, write to [email protected]: we will handle it in good faith.
Your content
- Your email, attachments, drafts and signatures are yours. We acquire no rights over them.
- You give us only the permission needed to store, process and transmit them in order to provide the service to you, as described in the Privacy Policy.
- We do not use your email for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train artificial intelligence models.
- You are responsible for the content you send from Strix Mail.
Price
If any feature or plan has a cost, the price and payment terms are disclosed before you sign up for it and become part of these terms. We will not charge you for anything you have not accepted beforehand.
Availability and changes to the service
- We work to keep the service available and working well, but we do not guarantee it will be free of interruptions or errors. There may be maintenance, third-party failures (email providers, hosting, networks) or features in testing.
- We may change, add or remove features. If a change significantly affects you, we will give you reasonable advance notice.
- Strix Mail is not a backup service. The original of your email is on your provider's server; we recommend keeping your own copies there (or elsewhere).
Intellectual property
The software, design, trademarks and content of Strix Mail (other than your content) belong to us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the service under these terms. Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook and Microsoft 365 are trademarks of their respective owners; Strix Mail is not affiliated with or sponsored by them.
Warranties and liability
- The service is provided "as is" and "as available", to the extent permitted by law.
- To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages, lost profits, loss of data or business opportunities arising from the use of, or inability to use, the service, or for acts of third parties (including your email providers).
- Our total liability to you for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to it or, if the service was free, USD 100.
- Nothing here limits the rights granted to you by consumer protection law (in Costa Rica, Law 7472 on the Promotion of Competition and Effective Consumer Protection) or our liability for willful misconduct or gross negligence, where the law does not allow it to be limited.
Suspension and termination
- You may stop using the service and ask for your account to be deleted at any time. How to do it is explained in Delete your data.
- We may suspend or close an account if it breaches these terms, if there is a security risk to you, other users or the service, or if the law requires it. Except in urgent cases or where legally prevented, we will notify you beforehand and give you a chance to fix the problem.
- When an account is closed, we delete its data as described in the Privacy Policy.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Costa Rica. Any dispute is submitted to the courts of San José, Costa Rica. If you are a consumer living in another country, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of your country or of the right to go to its courts where the law allows.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we will notify you by email or in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. Once the new version is in effect, the app shows it to you when you sign in and asks you to accept it to keep using the service; if you do not accept it, you can sign out and close your account. The date of the last update is shown at the top.
Miscellaneous
- If any clause is found invalid, the rest remains in force.
- Our not enforcing a clause in one case does not mean we waive it.
- You may not assign these terms without our consent. We may assign them in the event of a reorganization, merger or sale of the business, after notifying you.
